GUIDELINES FOR OBTAINING BUILDING PERMITS

PLEASE NOTE: Garages/sheds are NOT approved as habitable structures unless pre-approved by building inspector.
SETBACKS
(Measured from overhang of roof, not building itself)
Principal and accessory structures in the Town of Stephenson shall meet the following setback requirements:
(a) Side yard setback requirement. Ten (10) feet minimum on each side, with an aggregate of twenty-five (25) feet.
(b) Front yard setback requirement. (Defined as road side setback)
(1) All Town roads, public streets, and County Forest Roads shall have a sixty-three (63) foot centerline of thirty (30) foot right-of-way setback, whichever is greater.
(2) All County Trunk Highways as designated by the County Board and approved by the Highway Commission, shall have a seventy-five (75) foot centerline or forty-two (42) foot right-of-way setback, whichever is greater.
(3) All State and Federal highways shall have a one hundred ten (110) foot centerline or fifty (50) foot right-of-way setback, whichever is greater.
(c) Rear yard setback requirement. Ten (10) foot minimum from the rear lot line.
Setbacks also apply to temporary uses such as campers, motorhomes, tents and other camping units. There requirements also apply to LP tanks, power pedestals, outdoor heating units, the storage and/or parking of boats, cars, trailers, RV and other camping units, ice shanties or other such items, except when such items are stored on existing driveways.
FEE SCHEDULE
The Agency will collect the fees from applicants at the time of permit issuance.
Inspection requests shall be made by applicant or their designee.
One and Two Family Dwelling: (includes 8 inspections)
$350.00 plus .15 cents per square foot (finished)

$350.00 plus .15 cents per square foot of site built areas

USED Manufactured Home: (includes 3 inspections) $200.00
Addition/Remodel up to 600 square feet $150.00 (Add $50 if plumbing included)
over 600 square feet $200.00 (Add $50 if plumbing included)
Relocate Structure: $200.00

Garages: $150.00 (if plumbing … sanitary permit needed from Marinette County)
Sheds (up to 180 sq. ft): $10.00
Decks: $30.00
Driveway/Fire Number: $25.00 each

Electrical Inspections (New Service): $75.00
Starting without a permit – 2x original permit cost
Missed Inspections/Additional non-compliance Inspections - $50.00 each
Permit shall expire 2 years after issuance if the exterior is not complete.
Permit Renewal – 50% of original fee
Plan Reviews, Early Starts, Handicap ramps, Occupancy Permits – no charge
