We are located in the heart of Marinette County, are the third largest township in the State of Wisconsin with approximately 190 square miles, including water, with a population of about 3600 residents! We have over 3,000 acres of water on the Peshtigo River Flowage and 16 public boat landings for your enjoyment! Several of the lakes and shores are still in their natural state with their shores forested, not urbanized by cottages, along with many small lakes, some with public access.
We are also home to Governor Earl Peshtigo State Forest, Governor Thompson State Park, several county parks and a town park. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hunting, fishing, boating, camping, ATV/UTV trails, hiking, exploring, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, golfing, mini golf, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, even geocaching & more! Indoor enthusiasts will enjoy the variety of our quaint shops!
Town of Stephenson History
Organized in 1897 and renamed in 1905 as the Town of Stephenson to honor Isaac Stephenson, a wealthy lumberman, U.S. Congressman & Senator, who influenced the region’s development. The area grew around early rail lines with the Village of Crivitz acting as a stop for the Milwaukee & Northern Railroad.
